Some Interesting NFL Stats

December 18th, 2009 | by Ted Carlson |

The headline says it all, right? I found myself staring at NFL stats on Friday afternoon, and here were a few things that caught my eye:

Jason Campbell has thrown more touchdown passes (17) than Joe Flacco (16)

–The three highest completion percentages of Brett Favre’s career have all come in the last three seasons (66.5, 65.7, 68.1)

–Thus far, David Garrard is the only QB who rushed for at least 250 yards in both 2008 and 2009.

Frank Gore has reached 10 touchdowns for the first time in his career.

–Five of the first six running backs taken in the 2006 NFL draft have scored at least seven touchdowns apiece: Reggie Bush (8), Laurence Maroney (8), DeAngelo Williams (7), Joseph Addai (12), Maurice Jones-Drew (16). The other running back picked in the opening two rounds: LenDale White.

–Bush has scored 32 touchdowns in his career. That’s only one fewer than Ronnie Brown (33), who was drafted a year before Bush.

–The Titans have rushed for at least 2,000 yards in four straight seasons, including the current campaign. If the Giants (1,628)  finish strong, they will reach 2,000 rushing yards for the fifth straight year. The Vikings (1,625) are the only other team with a shot at three straight.

Wes Welker hasn’t scored since Week 7. He has caught 59 passes in the six games since.

–The 2005 draft class was the last group to fail to produce a 900-yard receiver in year one. Hakeem Nicks (685) and Kenny Britt (642) seem to have the best shot among the 2009 class because injuries have hurt Percy Harvin (681) and Jeremy Maclin (623).

–Among WRs with at least 50 catches, Steve Smith (NYG) has by far the lowest YAC at 2.5. The next worst mark is 3.0 held by T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

Kellen Winslow has still never scored in December (12 career games).

Antonio Gates leads all tight ends in receiving yards (1,038) and needs only 64 more yards to set a new personal single-season high.

Zach Miller caught 21 passes for 227 yards over Bruce Gradkowski’s four starts. If you multiply those numbers by four, you’d get a tight end who would have had a pretty impressive season.

Marcedes Lewis is averaging an impressive 16.2 yards-per-catch. That’s tops among tight ends, and he ranks 14th among all pass-catchers. If it stands, that would be the highest YPC of any tight end this decade.
